Lord Matthew Taylor has advised successive UK governments on planning policy. He authored the 2006-8 Government rural planning review “Living Working Countryside’, and the 2011-12 Government review creating the National Planning Practice Guidance suite. In 2015 his ‘Garden Village’ proposal was adopted as national policy at the March 2016 Budget as the Garden Communities programme. He advises both public and private sector clients on a significant number of major new ‘garden community’ projects, focusing on new settlements but also sustainable urban extensions and urban renewal project. Former chair of the National Housing Federation and President of the National Association of Local Councils, Matthew is an Honorary Member of the RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) and Visiting Professor of Planning at Plymouth University. He was MP for Truro and St.Austell from 1987 until he stood down in 2010.
