Judging for the Development Categories

Andrew Thompson is the Course Leader for building surveying within the School of Engineering & Built Environment at Anglia Ruskin University and a participant in the teaching exchange with East China Jiaotong University (ECJTU) in Nanchang. He is an expert in sustainable development specifically looking at the interaction between construction projects and the wider urban environment. Prior to his academic career he was the leader of national consultancy teams within Savills and CBRE dealing with rights of light and associated neighbourly matters.

He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) professional practice panel for Boundary & Party Wall disputes and has co-authored four RICS Guidance Notes together with the associated public guidance. He has acted as the RICS Media Spokesperson for neighbourly matters both on national and local radio plus within national printed press, he is the author of the RICS ISurv sections on Practical Repairs and Common Building Defects, he is the training author for the RICS Online Courses on rights of light and party walls dispute resolution. He is a regular contributor to the RICS Property Journal and is a Chairman of Assessors in the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). He is currently working on a Professional Doctorate (DProf) researching housing fitness standards associated with fitness for human habitation.
