Taking out two major wins at the International Property Awards is cause for celebration for the team behind, what will be, an iconic building set to alter Auckland’s skyline.
Seascape Auckland, the 187m Auckland apartment skyscraper being constructed adjacent to the Britomart precinct, won the Asia-Pacific’s Best Residential High-rise Development New Zealand and Best Apartment/Condominium New Zealand at the recent International Property Awards.
Tashunka Bolton, spokesperson for developer Shundi Customs, says the wins speak to the innovative architecture and captivating design of Auckland’s tallest residential building.
“The building’s interior layout is designed in such a way that all apartments will be north facing. This is to ensure every resident will have an unobstructed vista of the Waitemata Harbour,” Bolton says.
While Seascape will undoubtedly impress with its bold and sophisticated design, the innovation behind the aesthetic is what’s truly award-worthy.
Soaring skyscrapers need deep roots and are costly, but novel building techniques will ensure Seascape’s basement is stable and watertight. The basement perimeter makes use of an over 20m deep diaphragm wall, rather than ordinary pilling construction methodology. Mega internal props (over 1300mms in diameter) are installed by stages to shore the diaphragm walls, and guarantee a safe construction environment.
Bolton says residents will be able to self-drive their vehicles into the basement parking – a win for effortless urban living.
The design of Seascape incorporates a steel mega-frame braced in a diamond lattice, that runs the full height of the eastern and western sides of the building.
This innovative engineering solution has become an integral part of Seascape’s iconic architectural design to achieve the north-orientated apartment layout.
The sculptural mega-frame is built to last and will withstand the environmental impacts of coastal living.
Seascape will offer residents in the top six levels of penthouses with grand, 360-degree views. These penthouses will be located on their own floorplates.
Ultimate urban living
Most of the building’s 52 floors are made up of 221 apartments and studios – all fitted out with high-end, opulent finishings. Think stone kitchen islands, sleek timber paneling, and high-spec appliances.
Residents will have access to the pool and fitness facilities as well as a podium terrace complete with built-in seating and lush, native greenery. The terrace will sparkle in the city lights at night and promises to be a welcoming urban hang-out, reminiscent of apartment living in New York and Melbourne.
With the refurbishment of the adjoining heritage Britomart Tavern on the Western side – a public house dating from 1876, and an existing 12-storey concrete building on the eastern edge of the site turning into a boutique hotel, Seascape residents will have access to hotel conveniences, retail, and five star dining – as well as all that Auckland has to offer.
Seeing is believing. Visit the Seascape Auckland display suite at 81 Customs Street East, or call 0800 81 83 85.
